Most affordable neighborhoods in NYC?

Quote from Mike Redmond on April 1, 2025, 1:29 amMy wife and I have decided to part ways. It's a shame because we live in a great place in Manhattan, and splitting up means moving. Which neighborhood has the most affordable apartments? I really don't want to move out of New York City, but I assume that Manhattan is out of the question for my budget. Where else should I look? I don't need anything fancy. I'm just looking for a regular bachelor pad, so a studio will do in a pinch.

Quote from Stephen West on April 8, 2025, 7:28 amYou have my sympathy. I've been divorced, too, and it's no fun. It's better than staying a bad marriage, though. So, where do you work? I ask because your commute time will drastically affect your quality of life and whether you'll be happy in your new place.

Quote from Mike Redmond on April 9, 2025, 7:55 amThanks, Stephen. We are ending things amicably, at least. Nothing terrible happened, we just grew apart. Anyway, I mostly work from home as a software engineer. I usually only go into the office twice a year, if that. I'm pretty open to living anywhere in New York City that is safe and affordable. I'm looking for a change, but I need to save some bucks because divorce is expensive.Â

Quote from Ronald Reid on April 10, 2025, 5:37 pmYou can probably check Woodside in Queens. You should be able to find more such affordable neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn. Good luck with your search!

It is unfortunate. Hopefully, things will be better for you in future.
I know someone who lives in Ridgewood, Queens and from what I have heard, it is inexpensive. You can also look into Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
